Hello there! My name is Sierra. I am a stay-at-home mom who is trying everyday to grow and learn to be a better person and mom. My wonderful husband, Andrew, is super supportive and we have two beautiful daughters together. Our daughters, Lillie and Maia have filled our lives with love and joy. Lillie is very compassionate and loves to explore. Maia is inquisitive and just loves life even though she has been through a lot. Our entire family has been through a lot since Maia was born. Maia has several developmental delays and failure to thrive due to what the doctors believe to be an unknown genetic disorder. We have no play book to even look on and the doctors are even playing a guessing game as to what will and will not work for her.
Maia has had multiple hospital stays over her short time alive with the bulk of them happening around 16 months old up to now. These stays have not only been hard on her but our entire family. We are learning to cope with the grief of what we thought life would be while learning to love the life we were given and are working so hard to build. We want to build a homestead and learning to do this while taking care of a special needs child is not an easy feat. However, we just bought our first home in July of 2023, and we have been working hard on making the property our own. We are learning so much about how to do things on our own and the disability world all at once. It is not simple to understand something you were thrown into, but we are taking it day by day as we are with building our dreams.
I hope this blog can provide some sort of comfort and help to other parents that are thrown into this world. There aren’t a lot of resources out there and some of them are confusing and have links galore that don’t help much. I hope to simplify that and state by state explain different options open to parents along with helpful tips that have helped me or others. I aspire to create something that helps special needs parents to connect via our family story and feel that they are not alone. I love questions and if you have any suggestions, please feel free to reach out!
